Calling young dancers to perform at the International Festival

News

An exciting opportunity has arisen for groups of young people aged 12-26 to take part in a community dance project, Kadamati.

The International Festival is reaching out to recruit 500 young people from schools and local dance groups across Scotland to participate in a large-scale outdoor performance at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Participants will also get the chance to take part in a series of five workshops with local dance artists prior to the event. No specific level of dance experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a passion for being part of a world-class arts festival.

The dance has been created by the renowned choreographer Akram Khan to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War. Kadamati will bring communities from varying backgrounds and abilities together in a grand gesture of unity and diversity.

Kadamati will be performed on 22 August to open the Edinburgh International Culture Summit, when Culture Ministers from 40 countries all over the world gather in Scottish Parliament to highlight and debate culture’s impact on society.

The project is the result of the International Festival’s collaboration with 14-18 NOW (the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary), and Théâtre du Châtelet and Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.
