2018 Playlist #05

On 21 April hundreds of record stores all over the UK (and thousands more across the globe) will come together to mark Record Store Day, and there are some great releases to look out for from our 2018 performers - as well as a back catalogue of LPs from the years before.

Vinyl is on the up with the highest number of people now buying records since Nirvana released Nevermind in 1991. One of the best days to buy vinyl is Record Store Day, when hordes of artists release limited edition LPs and represses to celebrate the world's independent record shops and the unique culture that they house. Among those musicians are some of the performers appearing at the 2018 International Festival, with still more having marked the day in the past.

This year Mogwai's 1997 compilation of singles and B-sides ten rapid will get its first ever vinyl release, Django Django's EP In Your Beat includes a new exclusive remix, The Vaselines' first ever full-length album Dum Dum will be re-issued, and Karine Polwart's A Pocket of Wind Resistance (with Pippa Murphy) is given a gatefold sleeve.

St. Vincent gets a special mention for her stint as Record Store Day's ambassador last year, as does John Grant, whose album Queen of Denmark gained two exclusive live recordings on Record Store Day in 2016, and King Creosote for his studio album That Might Well Be It, Darling launched in 2013.
