EIFF Encounter One: Casual Intimacy
What does it take to make a film about somebody else, or about your own lived experience? How much can you really know about a person or character through the act of filming them? A panel of creatives from across film, literature and performance will explore crafting intimacy in storytelling.
Speakers include the co-directors of queer revenge thriller Femme, Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping, writer and performer Colm McCready (whose show Scaredy Fat is playing at this year’s Fringe), author Kirsty Logan (The Unfamiliar: A Memoir of Queer Motherhood) and filmmaker Ella Glendining (Is There Anybody Out There?
Taking discussions beyond the post-screening Q&A, the Festival is proud to present EIFF Encounters, a series of generous and expansive conversations about some of the ideas bubbling away in this year’s film selection. In a series of topic-led discussions, each taking a different question or theme as its starting point, filmmakers and guests join us to talk art, ideas and the nitty gritty of their craft, considering the meeting points between films. Think of EIFF Encounters as spaces to engage more deeply in conversation - a meeting place for filmmakers, writers, artists, thinkers, but mostly for you. Whether you come to contribute actively or to listen thoughtfully, all are welcome.

Sliding scale tiers for this event will be £2, £4 or £6.
Booking fees & e-tickets
There are no booking fees for EIFF. In line with our commitment to environmental sustainability, we would encourage you to opt for electronic tickets, however, if you choose to receive your tickets by post, a £2 charge will be applied.
Access Pass
The Access Pass from Edinburgh International Festival is a ticket booking scheme which allows customers to share their specific access requirements with our box office and venue staff so we can provide the best possible experience.
You can sign up to the Access Pass for access-specific bookings at Edinburgh International Film Festival such as wheelchair spaces.
Access screenings
A full list of audio described and captioned screenings is available for selected titles in the festival.
Ticket exchanges & refunds
No refunds will be given except in the event of cancellation of a screening or event. Tickets may be exchanged up to 48 hours before a performance to another performance of the same show, subject to availability. A £1.50 fee per ticket exchanged will be charged.

You can also book tickets in-person at The Hub from Friday 4 -Wednesday 23 August, open Monday - Sunday 12noon - 5pm (open late on performance nights at The Hub).
Pop-Up Box Offices will run at Vue Cinema Omni Centre, Everyman Edinburgh and the Old College Quad during Festival screening days.
