YMP Guide 2025

With your Young Musician’s Pass (YMP) you can get your hands on up to three free pairs of tickets to selected events across our programme.

Read on for a glimpse of all your pass has to offer this August.

For the Singers

Do soprano solos make your skin tingle? Take a journey to the underworld and back with Orpheus and Eurydice, as soaring vocals and acrobatic feats plunge you into an ancient tale of love.

For more vocal va va voom, grab a ticket to see award-winning countertenor Hugh Cutting in an eclectic recital that journeys across countries, genres and centuries. And with YMP, you can chat to the Hugh Cutting after his performance.

For the String Players

Be part of a musical journey at our Classical Jam, an unrehearsed performance where emerging musicians play side-by-side with professionals and you – the audience – get to choose what you want to hear.

Or witness the European debut of Carnegie Hall’s NYO2 orchestra, an energetic and skilled group of teenagers who will be tackling Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony.

Want to see even more young talented musicians do their thing? Check out our Rising Stars of Woodwind.

For the Pianists

Inspired by Claude Debussy’s Rêverie, pianist Hanni Liang has crafted a unique concert experience where she’ll create a dynamic performance shaped by the audience’s recollections of their dreams – no matter how weird and wonderful.

There’s more... YMP members (recommended ages 13–18) can join Hanni for a daytime workshop to learn about her concert creation process and get insights into the evening performance.

And for lovers of the classics, grab your ticket for a trip around the galaxy in Holst’s The Planets and catch prodigiously gifted pianist Beatrice Rana perform Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in the first half of the concert.

For the Percussionists

If percussion is your thing, don’t miss Colin Currie, ‘the world’s most daring percussionist,’ who will be performing contemporary works alongside dynamic a cappella group The King’s Singers. Catch the performers after to ask all your burning questions, with another exclusive moment just for YMP pass holders.

For the Beanbag Fans

If you’ve never experienced music from the comfort of a beanbag, this is your sign – Aurora Orchestra will be playing Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony entirely from memory.

Meet the Musicians

For YMP members, there are a series of unique opportunities to meet musicians after their Edinburgh International Festival performance.

Workshop with Hanni Liang

YMP members are invited to learn more about Hanni Liang’s creative process for Dreams, before seeing the evening performance (7 Aug).

This is a 1-hour workshop for older YMP members (ages 13-18), to learn about Hanni Liang’s concert creation process and gain insights into the evening performance.

You can book this workshop as an add-on from 19 May whilst booking for Hanni Liang: Dreams.

Listen Up

YMP gets you up to three free pairs of tickets but if you’ve used up your allocation, there are plenty other events to get involved in.

Our flagship Art of Listening workshop returns, this time for all the family to enjoy. Led by an opera singer, pianist and facilitator, this interactive event celebrates the power of listening deeply, together.

Lastly, join us for a transatlantic celebration of sound at our NYO2: Family Concert (back due to popular demand!) –a special interactive introduction to classical music for children and their grown-ups.

School children stand up from their seats smiling and laughing.
