Berliner Philharmoniker: Closing Concert
Berliner Philharmoniker: Closing Concert
Experience ‘the world’s greatest orchestra’ (LA Times) performing with award-winning soloist Augustin Hadelich in the closing concert of their residency.
The Berliner Philharmoniker makes a long-awaited return to the Festival in this two-concert residency under Chief Conductor Kirill Petrenko. Renowned for their tone quality 'which hits you like a shot of adrenaline' (The Guardian) and their remarkable cohesion, the Berliner Philharmoniker’s players 'create uncannily evocative atmospheres' (The New York Times) in their show-stopping concerts.
Ludwig van Beethoven's only violin concerto is a masterclass in intertwined symphonic and soloist sound. Yet, its 1806 premiere was not an instant hit, most likely due to the violinist sight-reading. Now, Grammy award-winning soloist Augustin Hadelich joins the orchestra to give this remarkable work its due. Next, another radical musical departure: Alexander Scriabin’s Third Symphony, ‘Le poème divin’. This ‘divine poem’ was Scriabin’s first step towards a unique modernist musical language, born from his personal philosophy of cosmic mysticism.
Under Petrenko’s ‘peerless direction’, the orchestra showcases ‘a wonderful feeling of unanimity between conductor and orchestra’ (The Times). In this highly anticipated concert, the Usher Hall will resonate with the sounds of this incredible orchestra for the first time in 20 years.
a beacon of everything that classical music can mean... craft, community, a vibrancy that emerges from deep respect for the past.
