Looking back on The GRIT Orchestra performing Martyn Bennett's Bothy Culture

Blog

Twenty years after Martyn Bennett released his seminal Bothy Culture, The GRIT Orchestra celebrated his musical innovation and legacy with an epic orchestration of his electronically composed folk fusion album at the International Festival. Let's look back on this magical Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside evening, which placed Scottish culture centre stage at the Edinburgh Playhouse with musicians performing from across Scotland's music scenes united under one invigorating ensemble.

What the press said

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'The contrast between the rigour and romanticism of the violins and the energy of the additional folk fiddle orchestra was thrilling'
The Scotsman

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'Witnessing such a wonderful mixture of characters working in tandem towards a passionate blending of primal pagan sounds and upbeat energy evokes a true sustaining energy within the audience.'
