Based on two chilling German fairytales, Das klagende Lied tells the haunting story of a jealous man who murders his younger brother. A wandering minstrel makes a flute out of the victim’s bone – only for it to sing the tale of the crime, with horrific consequences. Some musical highlights include vivid descriptions of woodland, a lively wedding feast and lyrical solos for a piece drenched in drama.   

Mahler expert Sir Donald Runnicles conducts this epic cantata and is joined by four star soloists, including Catriona Morison.
