INALA – meaning abundance of goodwill – is a joyous celebration of South African and Western cultures.

We are delighted to introduce INALA.

The Grammy-nominated South African performance celebrates South Africa’s rich cultural heritage through powerful Zulu harmonies, exhilarating choreography and moving storytelling. The music is composed by the late Joseph Shabalala of Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Ella Spira MBE, with narration by Ndaba Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela

INALA stands as a tribute to Joseph Shabalala, whose work with Paul Simon on Graceland, helped bring South African music to the world and contributed to cultural shifts during apartheid. INALA was his final international stage work — a lasting legacy of unity through music.

The International Festival played a proud part in bringing this landmark work to the stage, hosting its World Premiere in 2014. Since then, INALA has evolved through several iterations, taking on new life across London's stages to great success. That evolution continues today, this year, INALA featured in the Nelson Mandela Day concert in Trafalgar Square, marking the 30th anniversary of the South African Constitution.

INALA runs at The Lyceum Fri 14 – Sun 16 Aug. 

Please note this production replaces Ingoma! A Revolution in Rhythm which was previously scheduled for The Lyceum on these dates. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the producers of Ingoma! have informed us that this production cannot go ahead this year and as a consequence it will not be performed at the Festival.
