Listen to some of the singers in our classical music programme whose resonant voices will fill Edinburgh's concert halls this August.

Usher Hall

The exceptional Los Angeles Philharmonic launch the 2019 Usher Hall series on 3 August with one of the grandest and most gripping of symphonies, Mahler's Resurrection featuring soprano Miah Persson while the flamboyant Joyce DiDonato joins the National Youth Orchestra of the USA on 9 August for the sultry opulence of Berlioz’s six ravishing love songs. Eminent choir The Sixteen join forces with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for the world premiere of Sir James MacMillan's Fifth Symphony, Le grand Inconnu, on 17 August.

World-renowned British countertenor Iestyn Davies performs one of the most powerful love stories in all of opera, Orfeo ed Euridice, in a concert performance with The English Concert on 15 August. You can also hear the gorgeous tones of superlative soprano Sondra Radvanovsky on 22 August in a vivid concert performance of Manon Lescaut with powerhouse conductor Donald Runnicles and the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

The Queen's Hall

Powerhouse German baritone and star of the international opera stage, Michael Volle interprets Schubert, Mahler and Strauss with accompaniment from regular recital partner Helmut Deutsch on 8 August.

US tenor Lawrence Brownlee and Scottish-born pianist Iain Burnside perform Schumann’s romantic masterpiece of sorrow, fury, hope and joy on 16 August, before a programme of Poulenc, Liszt and Ginastera.

Bavarian-born Christiane Karg is one of today’s most sought-after lyric sopranos. Alongside German pianist Gerold Huber, her regular recital partner, Karg performs an all-Schubert programme on 21 August.
