The 'glittering' (BBC Music Magazine) Sitkovetsky Trio showcases the expressive range and emotional depth of the piano trio’s repertoire.
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ghost Trio captures the thrilling shift to his mature Romantic style, its eerie second movement inspired by sketches for a never-realised Macbeth opera. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Second Piano Trio in E Minor continues the haunting theme, its poignant heart shaped by the sudden loss of a close friend.
Cécile Chaminade, a brilliant but often overlooked 19th-century composer, was celebrated for her lyrical and powerful works, including her Second Piano Trio. The morning culminates in the much-anticipated UK premiere of Iranian composer Mahdis Golzar Kashani’s To the Pointer Stars, a vibrant testament to the enduring vitality of the piano trio genre.
