RURA
One of Scotland’s leading instrumental groups, RURA’s performances grip audiences with their uniquely raw yet polished sound.
RURA’s rugged yet refined blend of fiddle, Highland pipes, flute, bodhrán and guitar has won them multiple prestigious awards. Their music was described as 'the perfect soundtrack to a Scottish summer' by The Skinny; a progressive and entrancing sound filled with fast-paced tunes and demanding technical feats. But they are unafraid to contrast these energetic moments with a meditative calm, often including personal touches such as voice recordings from loved ones.
Since their establishment in 2010, with an unforgettable performance in the Danny Kyle Open Stage at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections, the four friends have developed into a consistently compelling band. They have released three celebrated albums, the most recent of which was 2018’s In Praise of Home, inspired by themes of homeland and belonging. Their fiery instrumentals have earned them a loyal international following through tours across more than 20 countries.
