Malcolm Martineau & Steven Osborne
Two Edinburgh pianists combine their superb abilities for the first time in a performance of visionary richness and exuberance.
Malcolm Martineau and Steven Osborne, both Edinburgh pianists, are two of the most perceptive, persuasive keyboard performers on the world stage today – and much-loved regular visitors to the Edinburgh International Festival.
Martineau and Osborne are joined by a quartet of talented young singers in the exuberant emotions of Brahms’s captivating ‘Love Song Waltzes’, two collections of charming but artfully crafted songs on the joys and trials of youthful love, whose effortless melodies miraculously bring together the worlds of Schubert and Johann Strauss II.
In between, Martineau and Osborne explore the richness and visionary exuberance of two classic piano duets. Schubert’s touching Fantasie conveys a remarkable range of emotion in its unforgettable melodies, while Ravel recounts five larger-than-life fairy tales in his sparkling Mother Goose.
