Camilla George

Experience a hypnotising blend of Afrofuturism, hip hop and jazz with visionary saxophonist and composer Camilla George.

Saxophonist Camilla George grew up listening to her dad’s Fela Kuti, Charlie Parker and Sidney Bechet records. She has since gone on to be a key player in the UK jazz renaissance, blending Afrofuturism, politics and jazz.

Born in Eket, Nigeria and raised in West London, Camilla is known for fusing African and Western music styles. Her 2017 debut album Isang was a bright, glorious mix of calypso, swing, improv and jazz standards, while follow-up The People Could Fly took inspiration from African folktales and stories that enslaved people passed down to their children.

Her most recent album Ibio-Ibio celebrates her roots, through the music of the Ibibio people of southern Nigeria. Accompanied by her band, George creates a night full of deep groove and fearless improvisation.

The way in which George brings together her various musical and cultural influences is undeniably impressive and the result is a distinctive and highly personal sound that has still has its roots firmly planted in jazz soil.
