The genre-blurring bass player and singer brings his unique blend of jazz and funk to the Edinburgh Park stage.
Stephen Bruner, aka Thundercat, is a maverick bassist and singer, described by the Guardian as an ‘eccentric visionary’ thanks to his inventive lyrics, virtuosic guitar playing and genre-transcending style. Thundercat found his instrument at the age of four and took his name from the cartoon he’s loved since childhood– an extension of his wide-eyed, vibrant, often superhuman approach to his craft.
Unrestricted by genre, he has performed at legendary New York jazz institution, Blue Note, been at the creative epicentre of Kendrick Lamar’s influential hip-hop album To Pimp A Butterfly and dueted with Ariana Grande. Combining existential meditations with thunderous basslines, his 2020 Grammy award-winning album It Is What It Is has cemented his transition from virtuoso musician to bonafide star.
