Maxim Emelyanychev is not only the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s energetic, vibrant Principal Conductor, but also an award-winning pianist – and a musician who brings surprises and joyful entertainment to all that he performs.

Join Emelyanychev and five of the SCO’s celebrated woodwind principals to discover two works for the unusual combination of piano and winds – one much-loved, the other a rarely heard masterpiece.

At the time he composed it, Mozart considered his Quintet in E flat for piano and winds to be the best music he’d written. At times it’s almost a miniature piano concerto, though the composer allows all five musicians their turns in the spotlight in music that can’t help but make you smile.

Tyrolean composer Ludwig Thuille is a far lesser known figure. A contemporary and friend of Strauss (and much admired by the younger composer), he was famed for his operas and chamber music. His Brahmsian 1888 Sextet overflows with relaxed charm and jolly melody.
