Artist Conversation: Thrown at The Hub
Writer Nat McCleary joins director Johnny McKnight for an exploration of the themes behind their play Thrown.
The National Theatre of Scotland presents Thrown at the Traverse Theatre throughout August as part of the 2023 Festival. Join the writer and director at the beginning of the show’s run to get behind the scenes of this brand-new play.
Nat McCleary is an actor, writer and movement specialist based in Glasgow. Her work focuses on intersectionality and identity, and her latest play, Thrown, is no exception. The production explores identity and belonging through the obscure art of Scottish backhold wrestling.
Johnny McKnight is an award-winning writer, performer and the director of Thrown. He has been described as the ‘vanguard of post-modernist panto’, having received a slew of award-nominations for his 23 productions. In the last few years McKnight has moved into television, working as part of the core writing team for BBC’s drama River City.
Award-winning writer, performer and theatre maker Travis Alabanza chairs this discussion.
