Simon Keenlyside & Friends
Baritone Simon Keenlyside is one of the UK’s most prized singers, celebrated on opera and concert stages worldwide for his exquisite tone, his nuanced expression, and the intelligence and honesty he brings to his captivating, dramatic interpretations.
Simon Keenlyside is a regular, and admired, visitor to Edinburgh International Festival stages. For his 2016 International Festival recital, however, he makes a departure from his perhaps expected classical Lieder repertoire.
Keenlyside joins a quintet of some of the finest young British jazz musicians for a foot-tapping concert delving into the energy and emotion of Broadway songs, and exploring their origins in the European traditions of sparkling operetta and subversive Berlin cabaret.
I can’t think of another baritone who can match him for beautiful tone, nuance of expression and immaculate diction.
