Danielle de Niese & Dunedin Consort
Louise Alder joins Scotland’s own leading period-performance ensemble. The Dunedin Consort, under brilliant Music Director John Butt, are as passionate in performance as they are provocative in their musical scholarship.
Sadly, Danielle de Niese has had to withdraw from the concert on Saturday due to illness. We are extremely grateful to Louise Alder who will take her place and perform with the Dunedin Consort.
Their concert’s centrepiece is Handel’s dramatic cantata Il delirio amoroso, almost a mini-opera of remarkable intensity, in which the abandoned Chloris descends to the underworld in search of her cruelly uncaring beloved. They complete their programme with arias from Handel operas including the poignant and much-loved ‘Lascia ch’io pianga’ from Rinaldo, as well as ‘Scoglio d’immota fronte’ from Scipione and the sparkling ‘Da tempeste’ from Giulio Cesare.
This concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3
