Le Concert Spirituel
Written to uplift and inspire, the Mass in 40 Parts by Italian composer Alessandro Striggio is one of the Renaissance’s grandest, most sumptuous choral works.

Striggio Mass in 40 Parts
Long thought lost, it was rediscovered as recently as 2007, revealing a rich tapestry of musical styles, from the touchingly simple to the imposing and the awe-inspiring.
Le Concert Spirituel is one of France’s most respected early music ensembles, and under founding director Hervé Niquet, the group performs Striggio’s monumental Mass as part of a service that might have been celebrated in 16th-century Florence.
Combining period instruments and voices, as well as plain chant and music by Monteverdi, Benevoli and Corteccia, Niquet directs a special performance that surrounds the audience with sound and makes full use of the Usher Hall’s wonderful auditorium.
