Bang on a Can All-Stars
Ghosts of the past and present collide through video and sound technology in this evening-long project from the internationally renowned Brooklyn-based Bang on a Can All-Stars, an electric chamber ensemble that brings together some of the world’s most adventurous musical thinkers.
The Field Recordings project looks back at a century of recorded sound and images, with specially commissioned new music that draws on melodies, pictures, ideas or voices that already exist to shine new light on the world around us.
This special event features the world premiere of a new arrangement of Steve Reich’s The Cave of Machpelah (excerpt from The Cave), as well as an appearance by composer Mira Calix, who performs with the ensemble as a guest artist.
Straddling contemporary classical, electronica, folk, indie pop and live art, the evening’s wide-ranging music embraces Bang on a Can All-Stars’s trademark rhythmic intensity alongside subtlety and lyricism, and also features fi lm and video projections.
Performing each year throughout the U.S. and internationally, including a sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall, the All-Stars have shattered the definition of what concert music is today.
