Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside

SUPPORTED BY THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT’S FESTIVALS EXPO FUND

A genre defying programme of musical adventures in an extraordinary setting.

Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside is a journey through the highways, byways and back lanes of Scottish music. It celebrates Scotland’s musical impact around the world and recognises visitors who have left an indelible mark. From punk to post-punk, from new wave to no wave, from alt folk to pop folk, from ambient electronica to techno this truly eclectic season is driven by some of Scotland’s most innovative artists, curators and promoters.

Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside takes place at Leith Theatre, recently described by The List as, ‘the best live music venue in Scotland’. Throughout August, seminal Scottish artists such as Mogwai, King Creosote, Julie Fowlis, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Django Django and Karine Polwart will perform their own work, often accompanied by friends they have cherry-picked to join them onstage such as Joan as Police Woman, Michael Rother and James Holden. We also welcome a series of specially curated nights by local festivals and promoters, each with their own unique aesthetic, politics and following, to put their stamp on the 16-night programme. Essential, groundbreaking works by Boards of Canada, Anna Meredith and Martyn Bennett will be reimagined for orchestral forces and promoters and collectives will shape unforgettable nights matching the well loved and the yet to be discovered.

Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside is in collaboration with the National Museum of Scotland’s exhibition Rip It Up: The Story of Scottish Pop.

From 22 June to 25 November the National Museum of Scotland’s Rip It Up exhibition tells the story of Scottish popular music. Alongside Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside this offers a unique opportunity to explore and enjoy one of the world’s most fertile and varied musical landscapes.

As a special offer for Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside bookers, you can get Rip It Up tickets for £5 instead of the usual £10.
