Virgin Money Fireworks Concert poster competition

Are you 5 to 12 years old? Are you a budding artist?

Then you have the chance to see your design on our posters for this year’s Virgin Money Fireworks Concert. We’re running a competition with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Virgin Money and our fireworks broadcast partner Forth 1, for children aged 5 – 12 to help create posters that promote this year’s event.

The Virgin Money Fireworks Concert is one of Edinburgh’s favourite annual events and closes Edinburgh’s summer festival season. Over 400,000 fireworks choreographed to live orchestral music light up the sky against the unique backdrop of Edinburgh’s iconic Castle. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by the exceptional Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska, performs classical favourites inspired by Shakespeare, which continues the International Festival’s Shakespearean celebrations this year which commemorates 400 years since his death. Pieces performed on the night including Prokofiev’s vibrant ballet music for Romeo and Juliet 'Dance of the Knights', also known well to millions as the theme from The Apprentice, and the 'Symphonic Dances' from Leonard Bernstein’s classic musical West Side Story, exploding in tandem with the fireworks.

We're looking for pictures which can be used on the Fireworks Concert posters. Three Images which best capture the spectacle and excitement of this fantastic display, using bright bold colours and shapes to create eye-catching effects, will be selected to appear on the event posters. Entries will be judged by Forth 1 Radio DJs Boogie and Arlene and will be seen all over Edinburgh throughout the summer.

The Prize

As well as seeing their designs throughout the city, winners will enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Fireworks set-up site at Edinburgh Castle and win four tickets to see the concert in Princes St Gardens on Monday 29 August 2016.

The winners and other shortlisted entries will also be celebrated with an event at the Virgin Money Lounge in St Andrew’s Square, Edinburgh, taking place on Tuesday 28 June at 6pm. This is a special event at the Lounge for the winners and their families, where they will be joined by our Forth 1 judges and invited guests, hosted by Virgin Money with the Edinburgh International Festival and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
