A teaser for Festival 2016
Cecilia Bartoli in Norma announced for Festival 2016
Today we are excited to reveal some of the first events of the 2016 Edinburgh International Festival, including Salzburg Festival’s internationally acclaimed production of Bellini’s Norma which will go on sale later in November.
Starring world renowned mezzo soprano Cecilia Bartoli in the title role, Patrice Caurier's and Moshe Leiser's staging of Norma will open the Festival’s opera programme with three performances at the Festival Theatre from 5 – 9 August 2016.
Bartoli leads a stellar cast including John Osborn as Pollione - who sang in the Festival 2014 concert performance of William Tell with Teatro Regio Torino - Rebeca Olvera as Adalgisa and Péter Kálmán as Oroveso. Diego Fasolis conducts the I Barocchisti orchestra on period instruments, with the Swiss Radio and Television Chorus, Lugano.
Also announced was a performance of Mark Cousin's documentary Atomic, Living in Dread and Promise which has a soundtrack performed live by Mogwai, a new project called Flit (working title) from Martin Green (Lau), White Robot, Adrian Utley (Portishead), Becky Unthank (The Unthanks), and Dominic Aitchison (Mogwai), and a performance of Schoenberg's Gurrelieder with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Donald Runnicles and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. For the performance of Gurrelieder we will be looking for more singers to join the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. Find out more about joining the Chorus here. Priority booking opens for Norma from Wednesday 11 November at 10.00am, and tickets go on sale for everyone on Saturday 21 November. There are also a few more Festival 2016 dates for your diary. Keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday 6 April when we’ll be announcing the full Festival programme. Tickets go on sale to priority bookers from 6 April and to the general public on 16 April. The Festival itself will run from 5 to 29 August 2016.
