Jordan Porphyre 7 Winner

Winners revealed for the 2018 Virgin Money Fireworks Concert poster competition

Harriette Williamson, aged 10 from Knightsbridge Primary School, Charlotte Pratt, aged 11 from Bruntsfield Primary School, and Jordan Porphyre, aged 7 from Roseburn Primary School, will see their poster designs displayed across Edinburgh in the months leading up to the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert.

The entries from Harriette, Charlotte and Jordan were praised by the judges for their creativity, innovation and spirit; themes that make up the atmosphere of the annual Fireworks Concert, that acts as the grand finale of the Edinburgh International Festival on Monday 27 August 2018, closing the city’s summer festival season with a bang.

The competition, supported by Virgin Money and Fireworks Concert Broadcasters Forth 1, is now in its 7th year and attracted hundreds of entries from children across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife. The winners were announced in a special unveiling at the Virgin Money Lounge, Edinburgh. Forth 1 DJs Boogie and Arlene, alongside Producer Marty, judged the entries on their bold use of materials, their bright colours and eye-catching designs. As well as seeing their posters throughout the city, the winners will enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Fireworks set-up site at Edinburgh Castle and will win a family ticket to the spectacular concert in Princes Street Gardens on the eve of the Fireworks display.

The stunning visuals of the fireworks will be accompanied by unforgettable orchestral classics from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. A special selection of music by legendary American composer Leonard Bernstein begins the evening, celebrating the centenary of his birth in 1918. After a short interval, the orchestra takes audiences into the deepest space with music from Gustav Holst’s The Planets, which accompanies the incredible display of fireworks above Edinburgh Castle.

The Virgin Money Fireworks Concert is one of Edinburgh’s favourite annual events, bringing together families, visitors and communities from across the city and further afield for the grand finale to Edinburgh’s summer festival season. Over 400,000 fireworks choreographed to live music by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra will light up the sky over Edinburgh against the unique backdrop of its iconic Castle. The event - the largest fireworks concert of its type in the world – is enjoyed annually by around 250,000 people at various vantage points across the Scottish capital and its surrounds.
