International Festival Young People's Awards

In 2016, a group of 17 students from Edinburgh high schools formed a judging panel of the International Festival Young People’s Awards and attended 19 productions and events throughout August reviewing and assessing what they had seen.

The students were selected from Castlebrae Community High School, Broughton High School, Portobello High School, Royal High School and Holyrood High School.

To help them prepare, the young people participated in a three day Jury Workshop at the beginning of August and had special access to post-show talks, events and meet & greets with artists and key International Festival staff.

The International Festival Young People’s Awards Ceremony took place at the International Festival’s headquarters on 27 August. The Jury decided on their own criteria for the award categories and selected the winners independently.

This project has been adapted by Mammalian Diving Reflex performance group in collaboration with the International Festival. Since 2008, the company has been taking their Children’s Choice Awards project around the world travelling to cities in Canada, Belgium, Finland, Australia and Germany.
