Winners announced for the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert poster competition

Shreya Vinod from Dalry Primary School, Thomas Temperley from Edinburgh Academy Junior School, and Lizzie Brown from Knightsridge Primary School, will see their winning poster designs displayed across Edinburgh leading up to the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert.

The entries from Shreya, Thomas and Lizzie were praised by judges for capturing the spirit and atmosphere of the annual Fireworks Concert, which forms the grand finale to the Edinburgh International Festival and the city’s summer festival season.

Andrew Nicholson, Brand Director at Virgin Money said: “The flair and creativity of the children who designed posters for this year’s competition is truly inspirational, and it was a pleasure to welcome the finalists and their families to the Virgin Money Lounge in Edinburgh to announce the winners. Shreya, Thomas and Lizzie all created wonderful designs and we’re delighted that their artistic flair will now be shown off through Edinburgh during August.”

The competition, supported by the Fireworks Concert broadcasters Forth One, is now in its 6th year and attracted hundreds of entries from children across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife. As well as seeing their posters through the city, the winners will enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Fireworks set-up site at Edinburgh Castle and have won a family ticket to the spectacular concert in Princes Street Gardens on Monday 28 August at 9pm.

Edinburgh International Festival Director Fergus Linehan said: “I would like to thank the many primary school pupils from around the city and beyond who submitted their fantastic work for the Poster Competition, and congratulate the winners for their incredible designs, which we’ll be seeing around the city as we head towards August.”

Gavin Reid, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra added: “Thank you to all the very talented young designers who took part in our competition this year, and many congratulations to the winners! Thank you also to Forth One for their continued invaluable support.”

The Virgin Money Fireworks Concert is one of Edinburgh’s favourite annual events, bringing together families, visitors and communities from across the city and further afield for the grand finale to Edinburgh’s summer festival season. Over 400,000 fireworks choreographed to live music by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra will light up the sky over Edinburgh against the unique backdrop of its iconic Castle. The event - the largest fireworks concert of its type in the world – is enjoyed annually by around 250,000 people at various vantage points across the Scottish capital and its surrounds.
