Iván Fischer on Mozart's Don Giovanni

Compared to the other Mozart operas, Don Giovanni has a unique element in its story; it is about a very controversial person.

Pioneering Hungarian musician Iván Fischer returns to the International Festival this summer to conduct and direct his daring personal vision of Mozart’s masterpiece, Don Giovanni.

Mozart’s masterful operatic dissection of lust and betrayal swings restlessly between comedy and tragedy to startling effect, and contains some of Mozart’s most irresistible music.

‘Opera is an ultimate combination of everything, especially with Mozart, where music and theatre are equally important.’

Watch the video to hear Iván Fischer discuss how he reimagined the opera to see the world through Don Giovanni’s eyes.

Don Giovanni will be performed at the 2017 International Festival on the 9, 11 & 12 August at the Festival Theatre, and you can book your tickets now.
