More pictures of The Harmonium Project

On Friday 7 August we'll all be gathered in Festival Square for the free opening event of the 2015 Festival - The Harmonium Project.

To give you a taste of what's to come, here are some images created by multi-award winning artists 59 Productions of the Usher Hall flooded with incredible projections.

A recording of John Adams’s mesmerising choral work Harmonium, made especially by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Edinburgh Festival Chorus conducted by Peter Oundjian, will be relayed across Festival Square as the façade of Usher Hall is transformed by a series of spectacular projected artworks which will display a digital representation of the experience singing has on the human mind and body.

Combining technology and art to stunning effect, this brand new work is a celebration of the science of singing and it will shine a light on the Usher hall, one of the city’s most beautiful performance venues.

Scientific data from performers in the Edinburgh Festival Chorus will inform the visual content of the spectacle. Working together with experts from the Centre for Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, 59 Productions have taken data from eye-tracking software, EEG machines to measure brain activity, and accelerometers to capture body movement, to capture physical and mental responses during the act of singing.
