How do I audition for the Edinburgh Festival Chorus?

Email our Chorus Manager Jenny Searle (chorus@eif.co.uk) to arrange your audition.

Can anyone audition for the Edinburgh Festival Chorus?

Members of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus sing to a very high standard. You will need to be able to read music and prepare for our audition (see below).

Who will be at the audition?

You will be auditioning for Chorus Master Christopher Bell and be accompanied by our pianist Stuart Hope.

How long will the audition last?

Your audition will last approximately 10 minutes.

What will the audition involve?

At your audition you will be asked to perform a song/aria and choral excerpt accompanied by our pianist followed by vocalising exercises to assess your vocal range and a short piece of sight reading.

What do I have to prepare?

  • A classical song or aria of your choice with piano accompaniment. Folksongs, unaccompanied songs, songs from musicals, or songs in Gaelic are not suitable for this audition.  We will provide the accompanist but please bring copies of your music for them and the Chorus Master.
  • Choral excerpt: please prepare all of your vocal part of one of the following: Brahms Requiem Movement IV, or Handel Messiah And he shall purify or Verdi Requiem Libera me or Mozart Requiem Kyrie (excerpts are available on request)
