A Listening Experience

The Incredible String Band’s second album, 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion, is widely recognised as a cultural milestone in psychedelic folk music. To celebrate its 50th anniversary
Classic Album Sundays presented an intimate album listening experience. Classic Album Sundays founder and BBC Radio host Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy discussed the making of the album and its legacy with special guests Mike Heron of the Incredible String Band and the album’s producer Joe Boyd.

This was followed by an uninterrupted playback of the album on vinyl on a state-of-the-art audiophile sound system so that listeners could hear details in the recording they had never heard before. The event concluded with a Q&A.
