Grade A listed, Greyfriars Kirk's foundations go back to 1620. In 1938 the historic church building was extensively restored. The interior dividing wall between the two former separate sanctuaries was removed as part of these renovations. The Peter Collins organ was installed in 1990.

As well as a parish church Greyfriars Kirk is open to the public for seven months of the year - attracting over 40,000 visitors last year. The Kirk hosts events including concerts, receptions and ceilidhs.
