The Edinburgh Playhouse

The Edinburgh Playhouse has 3056 seats and is the largest theatre in Scotland. Built in 1929, the Playhouse has been used as a theatre and a cinema, and is now a popular venue for musicals, concerts, opera and ballet. Centrally located, the Theatre is a short walk from Princes Street and Leith Walk.

Parking:

  • Greenside Place and Leith Walk are Greenways and controlled by Police.
  • Single yellow line to rear of theatre or Pay and Display over the road on Picardy Place and Union Place.
  • Public car parking approximately 40 metres away in Gayfield Square or Greenside Row.
  • There is also a 24hr NCP car park located next to the theatre.

Access Information:

  • Ramped access or three steps at front doors.
  • Level access for wheelchair users to positions in the front section of the rear of the circle. We recommend that people with mobility difficulties sit in the circle as this is the most accessible level.
  • Sennheiser infra-red system available in all areas of the auditorium. Receivers for use either with or without a hearing aid are available. Please note that a £10 deposit is required which will be returned at the end of the performance. Contact Duty Manager for headsets.
  • Unisex accessible toilet off main foyer at circle level. There is also a unisex ambulant disabled toilet on the mezzanine level.
  • The bar situated at the circle level is accessible to wheelchair users, as is the merchandise kiosk and the circle kiosk serving confectionery.
  • Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome.
  • Staff available to assist.
