9 August - 1 September 2012
As part of Festival 2012, Edinburgh's iconic mountain, Arthur's Seat, will be spectacularly transformed by NVA's Speed of Light, a groundbreaking participatory project that will bring communities together from all over Scotland to celebrate sport and culture.
Up to 5,000 runners will have the chance of a lifetime to run a choreographed route around the paths of Arthur's Seat at night in specially constructed light-suits. If you'd like to take part in this fantastic opportunity, registration for runners is now open.
You need to be fit enough to run 3-5K - including hill work - by summer 2012 and able to stay active over two and a half hours at night. There will be elements of running, jogging and walking within the choreography. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. A £10 fee will guarantee your slot and you'll be provided with a training pack, t-shirt and access to special forums and training sessions.
So if you'd like to get your hands on the hottest opportunity of the year and be part of Scotland's most unique sporting event, don't delay, register now at speedoflight2012.org.uk
Integral to the work, a ticketed audience will also generate their own light through the movement of bespoke walking staffs as they ascend to the summit, where they will be able to view NVA's stunning new work. Further ticket details will be revealed at our programme launch on 14 March 2012.
NVA's Speed of Light is one of Scotland's official contributions to the London 2012 Festival and the Cultural Olympiad. It is one of only four national projects commissioned as part of Legacy Trust UK's Community Celebrations programme, which aims to build a lasting legacy from the UK's hosting of the Games.
