Scottish Chamber Orchestra

Scottish Chamber Orchestra

Supported by Donald and Louise MacDonald
About the Performance

Glasgow born Oliver Knussen, one of the most respected figures in British music, leads the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in this evening of inventive re-interpretations.

Janáček drew on Slovak folk music for his piano collection, On the Overgrown Path. This is the world premiere of an arrangement for orchestra by British composer David Matthews - an Edinburgh International Festival commission for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, made possible by Donald MacDonald.

Also originally for the piano, Scriabin Settings are arranged here for orchestra by the conductor. The programme is completed by Stravinsky's rarely-performed masterpiece The Fairy's Kiss, which draws on Stravinsky's deep love of Tchaikovsky's sublime melodies and weaves them into an enchanting musical web.
