About the Performance
A whirling ceremony and Turkish mystical music performed by the world's leading group of Whirling Dervishes and musicians. A fascinating evening of poetry and music from the sufi traditions, building through the four steps of the ceremony, culminating in the hypnotic whirling and a reading from the Qur'an.
The performance features Turkish sufi music and the whirling ceremony, all closely adhering to a 700 year old mystical tradition. An enchanting experience, evoking the call for human love, brotherhood and tolerance that everyone should see at least once in a lifetime.
Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, idolator, worshipper of fire,
come even though you have broken
your vows a thousand times,
Come, and come yet again.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come as you are.
Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi
Reviews
‘The dervishes began to lean forward rhythmically and chant... speeding up like an express train...and out of nowhere emerged a solo voice full of heart-breaking longing.'
‘Its yearning for transcendence can speak deeply to any contemporary audience.'
