About the Festival

The Edinburgh International Festival has been connecting audiences and artists for over sixty years with the best classical music, theatre, opera, dance and visual art from around the globe. Every August, the Festival transforms one of the world's most beautiful cities, presenting three exhilarating weeks of the finest creators and performers - for everyone to enjoy.

Outside the buzz of those three weeks the Festival has a year-round programme of education and outreach work, aimed at all ages from primary school pupils to adults.

As part of our 2009 Bank of Scotland Connecting to Culture programme, we have commissioned three local artists from diverse ethnic backgrounds to work alongside TheatreWorks (Singapore) and its Festival 09 production of Diaspora. The artists - Pamela So, Rabiya Choudhry and Pio Abad - have been working with TheatreWorks director Ong Keng Sen to develop individual projects as responses to diasporas in Scotland.

This website Following the Diaspora: Chinese Lives in Scotland, is the contribution made by Scottish/Chinese artist Pamela So and charts the lives of Chinese people who have chosen to make Scotland their home. Designs from this site, along with exhibitions from the other two artists, will be on display in The Hub (Castlehill, Edinburgh, EH12NE) foyer for the Festival 09 period from 14 August to 6 September.
