In 2014, Ladysmith Black Mambazo – led by founder and leader Joseph Shabalala – celebrates over fifty years of joyous and uplifting music. Within this music are the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions. In those years, the a cappella vocal group has created a musical and spiritual spirit that has touched a worldwide audience. Their musical efforts over the past five decades have garnered praise and accolades from a wide body of people, organizations and countries.
Inala - meaning abundance of goodwill - is a muscular and beautiful blend of South African and Western cultures in an exhilarating celebration of the rainbow nation.
Choreographer Mark Baldwin unites Zulu traditions of song and dance with Western classical ballet, contemporary dance and music in one breathtaking performance. This unique collaboration bring together a stellar company including dancers from The Royal Ballet and Rambert with music performed live by Grammy Award-winning South African choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
To complement its collaboration on Inala, Ladysmith Black Mambazo gives a special one-off concert that offers the chance to experience one of the world's finest vocal groups. Combining traditional Zulu musical styles with gospel music, it constrats powerful, passionated choruses with soft, soulful sweetness in quieter music, bringing a symphonic richness to its a cappela performances, all delivered with an infectious sense of rhythm and flamboyant dance moves.
