About the Festival
The Edinburgh International Festival has three main sources of income: ticket sales, sponsorship and donations, and public sector grants from local and central government. The Festival, which is a registered charity (a not-for-profit organisation), aims to cover its costs each year.
In 2007, 50% of the Festival's total income was generated through earned income including ticket sales, sponsorship and donations, with 50% coming from public sector grants.
The total cost of the 2007 Festival was £8.1 million.
Income from ticket sales was £2.47 million (including VAT).
Income from sponsorship and donations was £1.68 million.
Other earned income was £0.24 million
Income from public sector grants was £4.07 million.
69% of the Festival's expenditure was allocated directly to meeting the costs of presenting performances: artists' fees and travel, hiring the venues, and paying the technical costs involved with staging events. The remaining 31% of the budget was spent on marketing, selling the tickets, fundrasing and administration.
